Today, at his Rose Garden presser, President Bush was asked about the report that estimates that over 600,000 Iraqi’s have died due to the war.  At first his response was predictable-he doesn’t believe it.  Never mind that some of America’s highest institutions of learning and research collaborated with Iraqi physicians to gather the data.  Even assuming they are wrong by half, that is 300,000 dead Iraqi’s in just 3.5 years.

Then Bush said something truly remarkable:

“I am, you know, amazed that this is a society which so wants to be free that they’re willing to — you know, that there’s a level of violence that they tolerate.

If that statement is taken to it’s logical end, then the Iraqi society wanted to be oppressed so much that they tolerated Saddam’s reign of death too.

Those darned Iraqi’s just don’t know what they want.  Well, maybe they do.  There are attacks on American troops every 15 minutes and 71% of the Iraqi’s want us outta there.

The fact is Iraqi’s are fleeing the country.  Almost 900,000 to Iran, Syria and Jordan.  I guess if they had a nice ranch in Texas or a seaside compound in Maine they would flee there, but too bad for them, eh?  And you know, Iraq, Iran, Syria, Jordan-- ain’t it all kinda  the same anyway?

Or you could use the Barbara Bush philosophy---They were poor anyway, so this is working out quite well for them.

But maybe Mike DeWine, a Republican Senator summed it up best on Russert’s Sunday program a couple weeks ago.  He said we are not in Iraq for the Iraqi’s but for America.

Winning hearts and minds, one grave at a time.

What a bunch of wankers.
