It’s War!

This so called “comprehensive immigration bill” is just the latest distillation of the arrogant disdain by our elite for the majority’s will.

But the American people slapped our “elite leaders” up along side of the head. The telephone calls registering disgust with these leaders’ shenanigans has registered with at least one:

“This immigration bill has become a war between the American people and their government.

“The issue now transcends anything related to immigration – it’s a crises of confidence between what the American people believe our government is and should be, and what it is to them now and what they perceive it to be.”

So says Senator Jim Demint (R -SC) on the Senate floor today after the Illegal Immigration Amnesty bill caused a deluge of communications with the Senators demanding to be heard.

Could not have said it better myself.

Well, it might the one of the very few smart things DeMint has ever said.

And while his statement is true, and for once in a long time the Congress did listen to the people, I wouldn't hang my hat on it. I don't see the future as bright. With the 2008 elections looming, it is all going to be political posturing.

But, at this point, any victory is good. This immigration bill was a disaster and I am glad that it went down the drain. And Trent Lott was right-talk radio is running the country, and this is one time that the right wing domination of the radiowaves actually was useful.

You may be right about him, indi616. I quoted him because what he said encapsulates the problem so well, and for the first time I’ve heard this truth stated crisply from the floor of the senate.

I agree that this is the way it will go if we relax. However, I think you and he are saying the same thing: the issue is our mistrust of our leadership.

I am glad you see this can of worms legislation for what it’s worth. I respect your intellect greatly, and that respect is much enhanced by the fact that you can see that farce through a liberal veil woven from that considerable analytical gift.

Your comment on the right wing radio resonates with me as well. I don’t listen to it, but it goes to illustrate the peculiar situation I and many people face today.
• I strongly support the American Sovereignty movement, which is most visible in the Republican caucus and seems to be a non-issue in the Democratic caucus.
• I am and always have been vehemently anti-Bush Iraq attack/occupation, which is a position that is central to the liberal movement.

The point is that I cannot be classified as either conservative or liberal. I have been a registered Republican and am now a registered Democrat. But there is no party or movement that addresses those issues of concern to me like a hand in surgical glove. My allies on one issue may be the opposition on another issue of concern to me. I think this is a situation that faces all of us more today than ever before. I would urge everyone to analyze the issues on their merits and make decisions on that analysis rather than on party/group dogma.

If you E-mail your Congressmen regularly like I do, you will note that they have a habit of mis-interpreting their Constituents actions or lack of action for their convenience. For example: On one particular aspect of the immigration bill as it was unfolding and being debated, Jon Kyl's comments to the media were he hadn't received many phone calls or faxes that day. He conveniently interpreted that as a silent approval concerning it.

I have letters from Congressmen years ago that indicate their lack of perception on lots of issues. They don't have access to the Holy Grail on anything. I believe John McCain's treatment as a Prisoner of War has come arounf full circle to haunt him in his everyday political life. He seems to have lost any consistency he might have had. Unless his Alzheimer's gene kicks in regularly like mine does sometimes.

The sheer magnitude of the effort to sell America down the river cries out that it is being done deliberately.

There is a wealthy and powerful elite upper crust that sees itself as citizens of the world. Sound innocuous enough, and even laudable, doesn’t it? But under closer examination, a perverse implementation of that mindset is the allegiance it spawns to a global superstructure at the expense of a nation. Most pointedly, our nation.

It can be argued that at the moment the United States is the most successful of nations over a wide spectrum of measurements. As such, it is a rich prize to be squandered in securing the superstructure in place more firmly than ever before.

America is fodder for the community of “world citizens”.
