| lie1 [lahy] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation noun, verb, lied, ly‧ing. –noun
I assume by "lie" you are referring to oneor more of these definitions. With that in mind lets look at a few quotes... 1."...the threat of Saddam Hussein with weapons of mass destruction is real." 2."We want to seriously diminish the threat posed by Iraq's weapons of mass destruction program." 3."We must stop Saddam from ever again jeopardizing the stability and security of his neighbors with weapons of mass destruction." 4."He will use those weapons of mass destruction again, as he has ten times since 1983." 5."...respond effectively to the threat posed by Iraq's refusal to end its weapons of mass destruction programs." 6."Saddam Hussein has been engaged in the development of weapons of mass destruction technology which is a threat to countries in the region and he has made a mockery of the weapons inspection process." 7."He has ignored the mandate of the United Nations and is building weapons of mass destruction and the means of delivering them." 8."We know that he has stored secret supplies of biological and chemical weapons throughout his country." I hate liars too. It upsets me. Especially all these lies from the mouths of our leaders. These leaders are scoundrels who lied us into war and they should be held accountable.
Quote 1, Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Jan. 23. 2003 Isn't this guy like really smart? Quote 2, President Bill Clinton, Feb. 17, 1998 This guy had a pretty high security clearance I think... Quote 3, Madeline Albright, Feb 1, 1998 Quote 4, Sandy Berger, Clinton National Security Adviser, Feb, 18, 1998 And all these above were before Bush ever stepped foot in Washingotn as the President...These bastards jumped the gun I guess. Quote 7, Sen. Carl Levin (D, MI), Sept. 19, 2002 Quote 8, Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002 I think this guy used to be somebody in politics... Damn liars... |

| AA, have a look at the dates of your quotes. All of them are pre-invasion statements. In the case of those made well before 2003, no one disputes that Hussein was a bad guy and was deliberately attempting to fool his enemies into thinking he was a much bigger threat than he actually was. As for those made later, clearly the misleading information trumped up by the administration was taken at face value by many in Congress who now regret voting in favor of giving the President the authority to invade Iraq. I think one important distinction here is that the policy pre-Bush was to monitor and contain, which in hindsight was working very well. Once the Bush administration decided it wanted to overthrow Saddam, serious, intense investigation and intelligence was undertaken. This intelligence was distorted, manipulated and downright disregarded in many cases to bolster the hawks case for attack. There is a fundamental difference between making incorrect statements based on the information you had at the time and making "flatly false" claims as a means to an end.

IAEA report to UN Security Council – 3/7/2003 Here are some of the biggest whoppers. Bush is making these statements well after the invasion. This is not wrong intelligence. These are straight up lies. And so the choice was Saddam Hussein's choice. He could have not fooled the inspectors. He could have welcomed the world in. He could have told us what was going on. But he didn't. And so we moved." "... We worked with the world, we worked to make sure that Saddam Hussein heard the message of the world. And when he chose to deny inspectors, when he chose not to disclose, then I had the difficult decision to make to remove him. And we did, and the world is safer for it." He chose defiance. It was his choice to make, and he did not let us in." U.N. weapons inspectors entered Iraq on November 27th, 2002. Digg It!

Here are a few more:
Bush said that war was necessary because Saddam wasn't letting the UN weapons inspectors in his country. The UN was in Iraq until Bush told them to get out.
Bush said that mobile weapons labs had been found. False. The CIA told the administation that the mobile labs were probably for weather balloons or some other benign use.
The Niger yellowcake lie.
The aluminum tube lie.
The "war as a last resort" lie.
It makes me nostalgic for the "I didn't have sex with that woman" type of lie.
