While Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton are both proponents of a health care overhaul in the United States, their proposals have distinct differences. While health care is often cited as a major concern for voters, it is easy to get lost in the technicalities of various universal health care plans.
Senator Clinton is concerned with young people who feel ‘invincible’ neglecting to invest in individual health insurance plans and asserts that a mandate is the solution. Senator Obama believes that if health insurance is made affordable, people will sign up. His plan does require that parents purchase health insurance for their children.
Both plans will require private insurance companies to offer policies to anyone, regardless of their medical history or pre-existing conditions. Both plans would also allow individuals to purchase insurance offered by the government.
Who will be able to achieve their plan? While Mrs. Clinton has a long history of fighting for universal health care, she does not have any experience winning. Critics accuse Clinton of failing to include necessary parties in her previous efforts and sabotaging her own plan. While Obama has less experience with health care policy, he has a well documented history of crossing party lines to achieve his goals.
