When a presidential election is finally over there are always millions of people that are happy and millions that are upset. If you are a democrat or republican it is obvious when you are going to be happy.I am not a member of either party so it would be hard for me to be obligated to automatic happiness. While i watched thousands of people in Chicago going out of their minds listening to Obama present his acceptance speech,it reminded me of when i was a kid watching John Kennedy give his speech. You wonder how so many people can be so oblivious to everything except what is happening at that moment.I dont know if Obama will be good for the country, but i do know that he has brought happiness and hope to millions of Americans.Only in America can you experience the electricity that one person can provide to so many people. So whether you believe in Obama or not ,just hope that he will not let the millions of his followers down, and get this country back in the winners circle again.....

| Degaselli, WOW! You said it exactly right! I know that you were never a big fan of Obama, but now is the time to "hope" that he is going to do something right for this Country. Word out this morning is that he is already assembling his team. It will be very interesting to see who he pulls together and if they have the Experience and skill to help this Country with the issues that it faces. I guess time will only tell. |

| I agree Degi, lets give him his credit and hope for the best. I have a feeling he will do the right thing for the country, which will probably not make a lot of his voters very happy, but hey he's in now, we all know the president can't live up to every promise he's made during his campaign. It's a whole different ball game now that he's in charge of the most powerfull country in the world. He certainly made this site an interesting venue to voice our oppinions. GL to all Americans.

| Excellent article Degaselli. It was nice to see so many people who believe in this one guy. I was moved when I saw Jessie Jackson standing in the middle of the people with tears running down his face; it gave me pause. I was a kid, but I remember JFK brought the same feelings, and when he was assassinated it was one of the saddest days I can remember. The liberals will be more critical of him than the conservatives when they find out he can't fulfill all his promises. Its a different ball game now that he has the job, he will have his eyes opened very quickly. Its a thankless lonely job, lets see what he can do. |

| Amen degaselli. There are high expectations for President Elect Obama now . . . too high. Obama never sold himself as a savior, but as a thoughtful and deliberate man who felt he could serve his country well as President. Arrogant, yes, but so is anyone who runs for POTUS. Unfortunately there are far too many of his supporters who would all too willingly look to Obama as a modern-day Messiah -- the Cult of Personality. Worshiping the wrong person can be dangerous, but far more often it just leads to crushing and painful disappointment. What Obama needs now are not accolites and sycophants. He needs supporters who will hold his feet to the fire and constantly remind him why he was given his job and who he works for. He needs the best advice around and he needs constructive, not muted, criticism. Obama has intellect, an open mind, and good judgment. I don't expect he will make the same kind of stubborn mistakes that Bush made, nor will he ignore prudent counsel. I expect him to respect the Constitution, and not just his favorite Amendments. I only hope that he has the benefit of members of his own party speaking up to him when they believe he might step onto the wrong path, something that George W. Bush neither had, invited, nor tolerated. |

| I have to wonder if the change that's been promised is what WE want. So far he's filling positions with people that were around Bill C. He is filling positions with his insiders, is this the change we were promised? Yes we need help in a lot of areas, but I assumed that change would involve both sides of the issues to work together and resolve some of the issues. It's only been a short time and he's not really in office, but the signs of change are interesting already.

A lot more conservatives seem to be more thrilled with the choice of Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State than I am. |
