At issue is our national sovereignty. And that underpins what it means to be an American.
Legal immigrants honor our sovereignty by doing it according to the book, our book, the book of the nation they are in either temporarily or permanently.
Illegal aliens do not honor our sovereignty. At best they disregard it. At worst they challenge it. That is where I take up arms on this issue.
It’s not about the illegal alien’s right to pursue freedom. It’s not about the illegal alien’s right to make a living. It’s not about the fact that America was created by immigrants. It is about preserving our sovereignty. It is about how or even whether we will continue to exist as a nation. Any other argument begs the point. Any other argument is a straw man.

Mr. Calderón, who has said he has relatives working in the U.S. illegally, drew heavy laughter when he suggested that only after the U.S. overhauls its immigration laws would he reveal their whereabouts. Mr. Calderón is from the central Mexican state of Michoacán, where many families have both legal and illegal relatives in the U.S.
According to the news coverage, his Hispanic audience laughed as if they were in on the inside joke.
Where’s the outrage?!? What if Bush made such a provocative statement on Mexican soil (not that he would jeopardize his Mexican citizenship by doing so)? There would be plenty of outrage; you can bet your bottom Peso on that!!!
