Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) is not wavering on immigration. This week, he continued to stand firm with President Bush in seeking a Senate compromise on the issue in the face of intense opposition from core activists in the Republican Party.

He has not to my knowledge talked straight to this issue since he seemed to be waffling on it a few months ago.

EXCERPT: Senator John McCain, parroting the Bush rhetoric, earned himself boos from his audience of real Americans the other day.
The Senator, addressing several hundred working class Americans at an AFL-CIO's Building and Construction Trades event in Michigan on Tuesday, April 4th, commented that illegal aliens do the jobs Americans don’t want.
His appreciative audience turned decidedly non-appreciative at that point. Murmurs from the crowd turned to booing....
Its time for some straight talk, Senator McCain!
Oh he was straight a few weeks ago when he said that if the bill he helped draft last year, the same one we, the public helped send to the bottom of the political ocean, he would sign it.
There is no doubt that McCain has changed little if at all on the subject of our border. This is why it is important the we stack the congress with solid conservatives (not necessarily Republicans) when it comes to this issue. Democrats in Congress may well give McCain another bastardized bill like the last one to sign.
None of these three are going to address the issue as it needs to be addressed. On that I believe you and I will agree.
