The House of Representatives has spoken - loud and clear: America does not stand for torture by the CIA or anyone else!
Having heard the voice of the People and in spite of his “We Do Not Torture” mantra, Bush is rattling his Veto Pen again. Is Waterboarding! really the only Water Bill he won't veto?
Anyway, on Wednesday, by a vote of 218 to 213, the House passed the Orderly and Responsible Iraq Redeployment Appropriations Act (H.R. 4156). This funds the War in Iraq for four more months, redeploys the troops and establishes the interrogation standards set forth in the Army Field Manual as the once and forever, single, uniform, baseline standard for ALL interrogations conducted on persons in the custody or effective control of the U.S. Government.“
The ACLU, that smarmily subversive Liberal legal streetfighter, is on board: "The Army Field Manual spells everything out in clear black-and-white language, with no room for any lawyer to weasel around its protections. If the Army Field Manual is good enough for America’s men and women serving in uniform, it should certainly be good enough for civilians."
The vote was predictably along party lines with 4 Republicans crossing over to vote Yea and 15 Democrats voting Nay. The individual vote tally can be found at http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2007/roll1108.xml

Digg It!

STILL IN BUSINESS
This morning, Senate Republicans introduced their own package - $70 billion in War funding with no strings attached. It went down 45-53. Then, the Senate version of the House Resolution 4156 was defeated 53-45.
"Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said the only way to get troops the money was to approve the restrictions outlined by Democrats.
'''Our troops continue to fight and die valiantly. And our Treasury continues to be depleted rapidly, for a peace that we seem far more interested in achieving than Iraq's own political leaders,' Reid said.
"Republicans said Democrats were being irresponsible."
