It seems that there is always someone out there just waiting in the wings to pounce on anyone who says anything that might offend anybody. Of course no one of good conscience supports what any of the race slurists might say, including Imus, Limbaugh and many others that I can't think of off the top of my head. However, let it be said, that I do support their right to say whatever their little pea brains think up to say because I don't want someone telling me what I may or may not say. I also support the network and the advertisers in the firing of Imus.
However in this "Gotcha" society we're becoming and the politically correct atmosphere that is enveloping us we are becoming a citizenry that is afraid to call anybody anything for fear that it may offend somebody.
This labeling of our citizens, in my opinion, only further divides us. I am an American. I was born in the United States, my father and mother were born in this country and my Grandfathers, Grandmothers, and quite possible my Great-Grandparents were all born here. It appears that most of my ancestors were of Irish assent, however I do not consider myself an Irish American. The labeling of ______________ American (you fill in the blank) makes me wonder if those that call themselves that are Americans last and their particular ancestral background first. Now I have no problem with people wanting to respect their cultures but when is the culture of our people going to be American?
