Denver city and county officials have finally drawn up the boundaries for which unwanted citizens will be relegated during the Democratic National Convention. The castoffs of contemporary society, a.k.a protesters, will be forced to demonstrate their constitutional rights to freedom of speech and freedom of assembly in a designated fenced-in chicken coop in the parking lot adjacent to the Pepsi Center. Nothings free in America anymore, not even our constitutional rights.

Restrictions like this take the popular war slogan "Freedom isn't Free" and stick it in a blender of government hierarchy. The original G.W. didn't lead brave men into a revolution so future generations of Americans could let their civil liberties be plucked away in a chicken coop.

Protesters cannot feebly abide by these restrictions. Holding up signs and chanting behind a fence while politicians smirk and wave as they enter the convention isn't protesting, it's  subservient. The alternative action of storming the gates isn't an option either. Senseless acts of violence, provoked or unprovoked, may last through the week's news cycle but will be far more damaging to the cause than helpful. There has to be something protesters can do to have a positive impact on the country's dialog.

Some people don't think the democrats deserve the brunt of the protests this election season. I disagree. Their complicit, spineless, wavering stances on the justified impeachment of the president and/or criminal charges against top government officials definitely constitutes the wrath of public embarrassment. The Bush presidency lied to Congress to invade another country. As a result over 4,000 soldiers and over 100,000 Iraqi civilians are dead. The resulting 2006 democratic majority failed to do what they were elected to do.

The protest group Recreate 68! is preparing for the DNC with military-like determination. They're trying to incorporate all advocacy groups from around the country to join them under their big command center. Organization isn't a quality most people would associate with protest groups but Glenn Spagnuolo, by all accounts the acting General, is trying to lead an army into battle under the hot August sun. His strategy to include everyone is great, but his aggressive style and undefined agenda is a hindrance. He's already suffered the desertion of one battalion that disagreed with his intense persona. Many skeptics in the public view him as a violent thug that only wants to create havoc. He has yet to muster up a plausible explanation for naming his anti-two-party group Recreate 68!

If Recreate 68! is going to defeat the naysayers, surprise the detractors and make a lasting impression they'll have to do more than honor the memory of 1968 by name only. The best way for Recreate 68! should commemorate the assassinations of RFK, MLK, the My Lai massacre, Tommy Smith and John Carlos, and the Columbia University protest by staging a massive, peaceful sit-in protest on the steps of the Denver Capitol building.

Spagnuolo should put down his arms, pacify his soldiers and take a seat on the steps of the Capitol building. He and his band of merry men should stay there all week. They should be more than willing to get arrested. Make enforcement drag their limp bodies into police wagons, make them leave $50 million of riot gear at the station, make sure the chicken coop is empty. Make Barack notice your contribution to the historical significance of his acceptance speech coming on the 45th anniversary of M.L.K.'s "I Have a Dream," speech. Make the world notice.
