Respect the Gay and Lesbian Community

When we meet someone who is different than we are, the first response of most is to pass judgement instead of responding to them as a person. The worst offenders are those who claim to be followers of God, yet they are the first to be intolerant, belligerent and hurtful. If you are truly a follower of the word of God, then you must love your neighbor and show love for our fellow man. In today's society the gay and lesbian communities are the new or current victims of those not afforded civil rights. They are treated somewhat in the same way as black people were, shunned and made to feel ashamed of who they are. We must as a society stand up and protect those who are treated wrongly.

The friends that I have had over time that are not heterosexual are kind, loving and treat others with respect. It would be a good idea for those who have mean spirited thoughts about those that they disagree with to learn and show tolerance. Maybe the followers of God should heed His words: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."

Unfortunatly for them homo's, it's wrong! Man and Women are made differently for a purpose, to replish. You think that 2 guys together is something we should except? Why?
Man is made to be with a woman, there parts dont naturally fit anywhere else! And 2 women together might be some kind of fantasy for Men, but reality is they don't have the right parts to go together either...If you know what I mean.
Come back to reality...Society shouldn't except these freaks of nature, but push them off to the side.
And to compare the way Homo's and Blacks are treated is an outrage! I agree that for many years Black people were treated very unfairly and they have every right that any other ethnic group deserves, but that's because of a color thing. Gay and Lesbian's is a sexual choice, and that's wrong.....Banish them!

The article seems to cover a few subjects here but we'll go with the one in the title... I live very close to Denver, CO.. believe me there are plenty of gays, and there are plenty of lesbians too. I see both everyday and in fact there is one in my family. Gay being wrong is very much so an indiviual opinion. I don't have intentions on becoming gay myself.. but as long as no-one pushes it on me, I don't feel the need to voice my un-gay opinion. I strongly disagree with the comparison between homosexuals and blacks. Gay's aren't oppressed for thier genetics. I also disagree with the aticles standpoint on "helping those who are treated wrongly" when in the context of gay rights. I have no reason to stand up and say Gay is OK. Discrimination is essential to freedom. Stop the press.. "STALIN LEADS GAY SOCIALISM"...heh. If the gays don't want to be discriminated against, they can find a way to shut them selves out from everyone else.

Now lets talk about the first reply... 1.) There have been gays since the beginning of history. Phalanx soldiers were encoraged to have homosexual relations with another soldier to keep moral and increase desire to protect your partner. If we don't expect gays, we aren't remembering of the methods of our own kind. 2.) Man and Woman Evolved for a reason.. we discriminate. So if you want to believe that you were designed to fit your christian parts into your womans christian parts.. then you can keep on bible thumpin' her till she feels good ol jesus warm her up inside. I think your views are worse than homosexuality.. why don't you figure that out for yourself. Your church must have wide windows. hmmmm.....Banish the Ignorant People!

well you see this is always how it is, and how it always will be. its not drugs sex or violence thats wrong with this country, its christians. bottom line, hypocritical white trash that runs around protesting abortions and stem cell research saying its murder and they get up on thier soap box "you need to let god f*** you in the ass or youre going to hell boi!" but heres something you have to throw in the pot too;

while these people are saying not to research stem cells because they have to harvest unborn human children they also vote for presidents who arent afrad to go to war, they promote the death penalty, behind closed doors they talk about killing thier fellow man for reasons undefined, at the dinner table they talk about how thier day went instead of issues that affect them as common everday scum of the earth. so when these bigot hypocrit punk asses gawk at me and hide thier children from me in public because i look different i think to myself "thats right, fear me, because you dont know what im capable of, just like that poor animal you ate last night was afraid of its predestined fate" now to get back on subject, if two men wanna shoot a load into eachother or two women wanna lick eachothers slits they can do it as long as i dont see/smell/hear about it later. theres also this wonderful disease called AIDS that will eventually spread more than it already has. so if you wanna talk more about christians and thier faulty sack of lies be my guest, it doesnt stop with fags, its like the energizer bunny. stds rule.

Not to speak out of turn, but, God said love the sinner, hate the sin. Well, if you were not like you are you would find all kinds of tolerance. Have you ever considered that those who are intolerant of you were placed there by god to shame you into doing the right thing and not be gay? If you are going to quote god, quote it all. Man and man are not to lay together. Hell, I'll break it down into layman terms, god made Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve.

I believe gay people do not choose to live that life. It is in a part of their being. I believe that people that criticise them, are not following in God's path. God wants us to understand, and accept each other, even if we do not agree with it. I fully agree with this article.

Basically I agree with the premise of this article. The draw back is that people do feel comfortable with folks acting like queers in public. Their kids don't need to see this. In their own homes the skys the limit.

I am a heterosexual individual with plenty of homosexual friends. I'll tell you right now that the gay community is not gay because they choose to be that way. Why would anyone chose to be looked down upon and shunned by a majority of society. They are, however, some of the nicest most generous and caring people i know and their hearts are why i am their friend and care about them, not their sexual preference.

i do, however, look down on hypocritical followers of God and agree that the majority of close minded heartless individuals i have met are strong followers of our supposed 'savior'.

AA? Where in the hell did God say "...love the sinner, hate the sin..."?

I'm not Christian but I like to believe that I follow along a lot of the same ideas behind Christian teachings. Many of which are the same in many other faiths. And I read a lot of spiritual literature.

But for you to spit out that crap about God's word as if "He" spoke it to you is ridiculous. First of all, its not in the Bible. It is just some evangelical bastardization of the intent behind the teachings of Christ which are so far from hatred that it is asinine to even suggest it. Secondly, for you to suggest that people who are intolerant are doing God's word by "shaming" others into doing the right thing is even more ridiculous. God doesn't need your help. And you and others like you who show their colors here aren't here as God's gift to herd to morally inept 'into their place'.
And finally, "If you are going to quote god, quote it all." is a really good suggestion. Perhaps you should heed your own words.

Leviticus was historically written at a time when there was no social concept of homosexuality. It was a patriarchal society where men ruled and women were property. Sex was not about love. It was for pleasure and procreation and the people of the time made quite a distinction. It was also a weapon of war and power which was used to humiliate the loser or the dominated ( i.e., battle or slavery)

While I don’t particularly care one way or another what they were referring to, I can tell you that this verse is so often taken out of context. Leviticus was written in the context of idol worship, paganism, prostitution and incest. It was also in the context of a specific group of people. I will in no way suggest I know what they meant, but I can tell you that I find it odd that it was never outright condemned or even mentioned by Jesus, your so-called Lord.

If you want a proper translation of the phrase, this would be more accurate: "and with a male thou shalt not lie down in beds of a woman; it is an abomination". Interesting. It only tells us WHERE we cannot lay down with another man…in the woman’s bed. They certainly didn’t condemn it in the battlefield or with slaves. This simple fact alone has historical significance and could be another topic, but I doubt your simplistic thinking can comprehend it.

Should I mention all the things in that over-simplified email that everyone has seen, suggesting that if we take everything in the Bible literally we would never work on Sundays, never divorce, never mix linen with flax, never eat shellfish or deer meat…etc etc.

The only real evil here being overlooked is all this judgment of others.

Sin is nothing more than going against your own nature. If it is in one’s nature to be attracted to the same sex, who the hell am I to judge? What right have I? My own personal belief is that God is nothing more than the embodiment of pure love. God would have nothing to do with judgment, ostracizing others, discrimination, exclusion or hatred. Even of a so-called, man-defined “sin”.

And datenuts? Get spellcheck for your brain. It ain't right.
