Let's get this one out of the way early.

Senator McCain says that Hamas wants Barack Obama to win the election and become President of the USA.   “I think it is very clear who Hamas wants to be the next president of the United States, if Senator Obama is favored by Hamas, I think people can make judgments accordingly.”

McCain gathered his conclusion because Hamas advisor, Ahmed Yousef, said this on a New York radio show:
“We like Mr. Obama, and we hope that he will win the election.”

Yousef added “I do believe that Mr. Obama is like John Kennedy, a great man with great principles,” he continued. “He has a vision to change America, to make it in a position to lead the world community, but not with domination and arrogance.”

Obama has repeatedly said that he views Hamas as a terrorist organization.

Obama and McCain were co-sponsors of Palestinian Anti-Terrorism Act of 2006, which was signed into law by Bush in 2006.

The law states in part:

SECTION 9: 
    No funds authorized or available to the Department of State may be used for or by any officer or employee of the United States Government to negotiate with members or official representatives of Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade, or any other Palestinian terrorist organization (except in emergency or humanitarian situations), unless and until such organization--
        (1) recognizes Israel's right to exist;

        (2) renounces the use of terrorism;

        (3) dismantles the infrastructure in areas within its jurisdiction necessary to carry out terrorist acts, including the disarming of militias and the elimination of all instruments of terror; and

        (4) recognizes and accepts all previous agreements and understandings between the State of Israel and the Palestinian Authority.



McCain says that he will be Hamas' "worst nightmare" which reminds me of Bush's "bring 'em on" and "dead or alive" statements.  Well they brought it on, and we have over 4000 dead American soldiers.

Speaking of Bush, he added a signing statement to the Palestinian Anti-Terrorism Act of 2006.

The statement is rife with his usual unitary executive BS and essentially renders much of the legislation moot. 

Regarding Section 9 (noted above) Bush said:
The executive branch shall construe as advisory the provisions of the Act, including section 9, that purport to direct or burden the conduct of negotiations by the executive branch with entities abroad. Such provisions, if construed as mandatory rather than advisory, would impermissibly interfere with the President's constitutional authorities to conduct the Nation's foreign affairs, including protection of American citizens and American military and other Government personnel abroad, and to supervise the unitary executive branch.

Obama responded to McCain's attack by saying that McCain had "lost his bearings."  McCain said "hey, you calling me OLD?"  Obama responded "no, just nuts."  I might not have those quotes just right.

Anyway, McCain should be very careful here.  Obama didn't ask for a Hamas endorsement.

McCain did seek and receive the endorsement of Pastor Rod Parsley, who has said that adultery is a crime and should be punishable by prison. This creates quite the pickle for McCain as he and his wife are adulterers.  Damn, most of the Congress, and more than a few evangelical pastors would be in prison if Parsley had his way.
