Hey everyone!
Hate getting all that junk mail?  Me too.

According to polls 89% of Americans don't want that crap that fills up our mailboxes, trash cans and eventually our landfills.

Wish there was a way to opt of out getting junk mail, just like the great "Do Not Call" program that the Feds instituted a few years ago?

Well, don't hold your breath.

Apparently, the USPS is fighting every effort to keep you from getting so much Junk Mail.  See, it is a Jobs Program for the Postal Service.

So says Steve Kearney, a Postal Service senior vice president "Efforts to convince people not to receive mail are really going to hurt."

The Postal Service lost $1.1 billion in its latest quarter. That number would be even larger if it weren't for direct mailings, which now constitute 52 percent of mail volume, up from 38 percent in 1990. Revenue from direct mail "is the financial underpinning of the Postal Service—it could not survive without it," says Michael Coughlin, former deputy postmaster.

States have tried to pass legislation against junk mail, but it has been opposed by the Postal Service and not one bill has passed.

So, when you get that pile of crap, just remember-it keeps those diligent men and women in those cute shorts in a job.
