The article name might ring a distant bell to some of you not interested the pop culture of the 1960’s, the rest of you will understand the title immediately.

Tribbles, those little furry bastards that kept popping up on the Enterprise every time you turned around are what the current scandal driven American Politic has made of the Bimbo Alert. It doesn’t matter if there isn’t a shred of evidence as in the current fever around Senator and presidential candidate J. Sydney McCain, or if there is tons of evidence, stained dresses and multiple entry and exit documents showing the goings and comings of presidential visits as with someone we all remember, the countries craving for scandal seems to be insatiable. These are the Tribbles of which I speak.

The Trouble with Tribbles is that it should be none of our business. But it is our business. And here’s why…

If a sitting President of the United States of America feels ashamed enough to lie about an affair, whether physically consummated or not, then it could well become a tool of someone else to control or at the very least influence a world leaders decision making. People said that Clinton lied to cover it up from his wife. That’s a perfect example of it not just being a personal matter. These Tribbles are a real problem. I don’t expect every person to be perfect because that is impossible, but am I the only man left who has never cheated on his wife or been smart enough to never place myself in a position to be accused of maybe possibly cheating on my wife?

If a person would lie to his wife about cheating (which I am sure most every man would) then it is a blackmail opportunity for someone out there to exploit. If a person would lie about sex, gambling, having a drink, doing coke, whatever… it creates a major opening for all kinds of manipulation at the very least and world altering control at the very worst.

I question this on both sides of our current candidate roster. McCain is dealing with a possible scandal that will probably turn out to be bull s*** from what I have seen so far. Think about it, nobody is actually accusing him of doing anything wrong, they say it just looked wrong. B. Hussein Obama has the question of his drug past, which he at least has made some mention of its validity as in he might have sold dope in his youth, so that really can’t be used as much of a weapon. And then we have Hillary and Lord only knows how much crap she has been knee deep in, whether her own or her over sexed husbands over the years. Huckabee I am sure is not a pure as he portrays himself to be, but I doubt it would be a scandal of this kind, but we will never know because he isn’t a real contender so nobody is going to waste the time to torpedo him because it would be a wasted shot.

Those of you who think that, “It was sex between two consenting adults and none of our business” are just wrong. It is “just sex” when it is between ordinary people, but politicians carry a sacred oath to defend the constitution and they have just a hair more responsibility than you and I have on any given day. You and I might lose a wife, our kids and maybe a home which can be bad enough, but it affects us and our immediate families. A president, congressman, senator, Chief of staff etc can influence the lives of millions here and abroad if they are made puppets to their own inequities.

I believe that if there is anything like this in a candidate’s past it should be disclosed and it should count. If they have already done it once, they might again, and this time they might get caught, not by their wife, but by a foreign power, terrorist group or even a lobbyist who might pressure them to do their bidding in stead of ours. This has to be factored in when considering who you are going to give the job of the most power man in world to.

As with most things in America these days, this probably smacks of puritan morality and some of you will undoubtedly find what I am saying as old fashion and hypocritical. Old fashion, perhaps; hypocritical not a chance. But it also correct. Blackmail unlike many things doesn’t go out of style. It has been around since the start of time and it will be with us until the end of time.

And as I said above it doesn’t have to be about sex. Drug use, abuse, addiction, sexual depravity, any of these things, when in the hands of those with power to make our lives easier of harder, tax us more or less, launch a war or find peace, hell to place a freeway through a town or around it, these things matter to all of us. We need to stop expecting our leaders to be just like us, the guy we would have a beer with, and start expecting great things from great leaders.  Someone once said that American gets the leadership they ask for. Well I think it is high time we ask for the best to run, the best to win and for the best to lead.

But what would I know; I’m just an Average American.
